Edwardian Trading Standards Scales, DeGrave of London - immense proportions!

£1,500.00

An early, rare and very fine quality cased set of Edwardian beam scales, formerly the property of Monmouth County County Council and manufactured by one of the finest of the London makers, Degrave & Co. These scales are steeped in history, profusely marked with Royal ciphers dating right back to the reign of Queen Victoria. They would originally have been used by Government officials enforcing laws relating to the sale of any produce that was sold by weight. This particular set comprises three scales - 56lb, 7lb and 1lb capacity - each of which is also marked “Degrave, Makers, London" and with the serial numbers 908, 909 & 910. The traditional black painted and waxed case would make a fabulous coffee table with an inner surprise to amaze your guests! 76cm x 45cm x 26cm. 32kg (70lbs).

Condition: Fine quality. The brasswork retains its original lacquer with only very minor age-related wear, the pans show great patina associated with age and use.

SHIPPING: Due to the size and weight of this item (32kg/70lbs) this item cannot be sent internationally. It may be collected, in person, from the Penrith area, 10 miles from Junction 40 of the M6 or I can arrange a courier.
