Kodak No3 Folding Brownie Camera, Model A, Burgundy Bellows, circa 1910
An early example of a Eastman Kodak Folding Brownie camera, this being the company’s 3A model, fitted with the desirable polished wooden lens board and maroon bellows which only appeared on early incarnations, which were later replaced with a metal lens board and black bellows. An American import to the UK, this horizontal format rollfilm camera was of wooden construction with a Rexine faux-leather covering, a pull-out lens affixed to a polished metal track, hinged back released by two sliding catches and a viewfinder to the side that could be rotated through 90 degrees for portrait or landscape use. The No 3 Folding Brownie was introduced in 1905, with this example most likely dating to around 1910. 22cm x 12cm x 7cm (folded). 18cm long when in use.
Condition: This example is in good order. The black Rexine case has only minor wear. The bellows are good. The lens optics are clear and the mechanical shutter appears to be in good working order, though has not been tested for accuracy. The brass and Chromium-plated components are still very bright, the other metal components, catches etc, with just a little tarnishing. The leather handle is original and still in good shape. The original makers marks are present to the inside.
