Kern Theodolite K1-A, Legendary Swiss Optics, Time-warp Condition!
A superb quality Swiss-made theodolite from the factory of Kern & Co, Aarau. Kern was established in 1819 and continued production through to 1988, at which time the company was taken over by its main competitor, Wild Heerbrugg. Throughout production, Kern were renowned for the outstanding quality of their instruments. This particular example of the company's K1-A theodolite, serial number 188031, dates to the mid 1970s and survives in remarkable condition with beautifully clear optics. Unlike many theodolites this model gives an upright - rather than an inverted - image, making the instrument much easier to use. 20cm high, 17cm telescope. Original transit case.
Condition: The instrument survives in exceptionally good condition with original paintwork in almost as-new condition, bright and crystal clear optics (the images were taken on a typically overcast Cumbrian day!), fully intact recticle, all scales reading correctly, all controls fully functional, spirit level intact etc. The transit case retains its original paintwork with just a few minor scratches. The leather strap has become detached to one end.
