First Lothian & Border Armoured Car Company, superb 1922 photograph, framed

£215.00

This superb antique framed photograph depicts the 1st Lothian and Border Armoured Car Company in 1922.

The company formed a part of the 1st Lothian and Border Yeomanry, a territorial army regiment that was based in the Scottish Lowlands with origins dating back to 1797. During in World War 1 the UK relied heavily on horses, not just for cavalry purposes but also for moving supplies, equipment, guns and ammunition. By the end of the conflict close to half a million horses that had been requisitioned by the British Army were dead. Hardly surprising that a decision was then made to greatly reduce the military's dependence on horses, with the 1st Lothian and Border Yeomanry forming its Armoured Car Company in February 1920.

88cm x 22cm, framed and glazed. Picture titled "1st Lothian and Border Armoured Car Company - 1922" and bearing a publishers mark for Debenham of Edinburgh.

Condition: The photograph survives in very good condition with only minor fading and discoloration. The antique frame is structurally sound with minor paint losses, the backing material with the old tape now partially peeling. The glass is intact. Note that the horizontal mark in the second image is a reflection and not a defect in the image.
