Rare to the market is this interesting collection of 16 antique glass magic lantern slides believed to date to the 1940s, 50s & 60s, up until the last days of the magic lantern. Before the arrival of moving pictures - or 'movies' as they came to be known - magic lantern shows were very popular. But even after films became mainstream, powerful magic lanterns continued to be used in cinemas to advertise local businesses and upcoming productions. Slides such as these would have been screened before the main film was screened and during the interval. All are made of glass and are in the standard 3¼" square format.
