Busch Vademecum Casket Lens Set, 1899
Rare to the market and dating to around 1899, is this Busch 'Vademecum' Satz No 2 combination lens set complete with original silk lined and leather bound maker's case and (crucially) a correctly fitting lens flange. The set comprises 7 elements numbered 15, 25, 35, 45, 55, 65 and 75, an extension ring, brass lens barrel/holder with iris diaphragm barrel, four drop in orthochromatic filters and a leather front lens cap.
This hugely versatile set provided the photographer with 29 different combinations of focal length, delivering image sizes from from 3" x 4" right up to 24" x 30".
Condition: All lenses in good order, free from cracks, chips, haze, fungus and separation. Brass barrel still with original protective lacquer showing some pitting and oxidation. The silk lined case is sound but has some age-related wear, notably to the external leather, as illustrated. Instructions (last image) web-sourced and for illustrative purposes only, not included.
