Antique Studio Stand for Plate Camera or Magic Lantern Projector, 1880s, rare!
This antique adjustable tripod stand was made by the Eastman Kodak of London dates and dates to the late Victorian era. It's a must-have for any collector wanting to display their prized possession, and is equally suitable for re-use. The stand is made from the finest quality mahogany and is equipped with a heavily-engineered cast iron rack and pinion mechanism for adjusting the height, and has a platform to the top which can be adjusted for elevation. It stands on its original castors and remains in great condition and excellent working order, and with wonderful patina and the original maker's plates to the side. The platform measures 71cm x 37cm wide, and the height is adjustable from approximately 80cm to 120cm. The studio camera (fourth image) is for scale and illustrative purposes only, and is NOT included in the sale - but please see my other listings for similar items.
These stands rarely come to the market, so don't let this opportunity pass you by!
Condition: This item survives in beautiful condition, the wooden components being protected by their original French Polish with nice colour and really good patina. Everything is structurally sound with no visible damage, other than for a small loss to the stem (pictured, last image), to the underside of the platform. The cast iron components are all in very good order, with just a few paint losses and a little surface rust. The rack and pinion mechanism works well and the stand holds its height even when holding a quite heavy camera. The elevation adjustment works correctly. All castors are present.
