A complete set of EIGHTEEN humorous antique stereoviews entitled 'Is Marriage a Failure?' as published by Underwood and Underwood in 1901, and contained within their original bookform case. Each card 18cm x 9cm with makers marks and inscription to the front, foreign language translations to the reverse. A rare and complete set presented in excellent condition.

Thanks to the magic of stereoscopy these images provide a remarkable illusion of three-dimensions. Each card comprises two nearly identical photographs, each having been taken from a slightly different angle. When viewed through a suitable stereoscope, the eyes are fooled into seeing the images in three dimensions.
