Antique Steam Pressure Gauges, ex Steam Train, Circa 1900

£450.00

A super piece of British industrial heritage, and believed to come from the cab/footplate of an old steam train, is this collection of three antique brass-bound pressure gauges complete with their original brass taps and steel backplate. The gauges - two being by the renowned steam train manufacturer Bellis and Morcom of Birmingham - are marked 'Chest', 'Back Pressure' and 'Range' and the steel plate is hand-painted to the reverse with the number 10716. Each gauge is 5" in diameter and the plate measures 13" x 18", the whole thing being heavily engineered and weighing in at a hefty 10.6kg (23lbs).

Belliss & Morcom was founded by George Edward Bellis in 1852 in Birmingham to make steam engines. He was joined in 1884 by fellow engineer Alfred Morcom in 1884. The company incorporated in 1893, thereafter becoming Bellis and Morcom Ltd.

Condition: All gauges with age related patina, the dials with discoloration and the brass rims with a few light indentations. Sold as seen and untested. Back plate with surface rust to the reverse, cleaned and lightly polished to the front.
