An antique ‘Society of the Arts’ pattern microscope to the design popularised by Robert Field in 1855 who won the Society of the Arts prize that year. This particular example bears no maker's name but is believed to date to the early 1900s. Working height 33cm (13"). Fully operational. Coarse and fine focusing both good, optics clear. Original lacquer intact with a only a little oxidation and discoloration. Some foxing and a small crack to the mirror. Catch missing to case. Handwritten note to the case, date incypherable.
