Antique Microscope, 19th Century Ross Pattern, Bar Limb, Large Example

£825.00

A very large and fine quality 19th Century bar limb monocular compound microscope in a glazed display case. Without makers name but beautifully engineered and to a similar pattern to that developed by Andrew Ross in the 1840s. It comes complete with mechanical stage and a range of accessories as illustrated. 48cm working height. Circa 1860.

Condition: Coarse and fine focusing both working correctly. Nice crisp optics. Mechanical stage in working order. The brasswork has a fair amount of age-related wear and tarnishing to the original lacquer, as shown in the images and consistent with this instrument's 160 years or so of age. The fitted case is in good condition with its original French Polish still retaining good colour and shine. Original recessed handle. Internal drawer lacking one knob. Non-structural shrinkage split to rear. Missing key. Microscope slide included, in good condition.
