Antique Magic Lantern Projector, Tinplate and Brass, French, Cased, early 1900s
Please note that I will be away until 26 March. No orders will be processed until my return.
A handsome tinplate and brass magic lantern dating to the early 1900s. Unbranded, though the last I sold of this design was marked 'Lantern Universelle Depose C. & G. P." so it may well be French. It comes complete with metal carry case, slide carrier and a couple of nice lantern slides. 47cm long (lens extended) and 36cm high.
Condition: The lantern survives in very good condition, the tinplate still with its original 'Russian Iron' finish, dent free and with only minor tarnishing and some light/localised surface rust to the chimney. The brasswork is generally good, most of it still with its original lacquer but with some tarnishing and oxidation. The lens optics are reasonably good and the internal condensing lens is present and in good order. The focusing mechanism operates smoothly without slippage to the rack and pinion. Inside there is a mirrored reflector but no lamp holder. The lantern has, nonetheless, been tested using a separate light source and has been found to be in excellent working order, delivering a nice crisp image.
