Antique Magic Lantern Projector, Cinematograph, Ernst Plank, 1900

£165.00

An antique tinplate toy magic lantern and cinematograph by the German maker, Ernst Plank, sold together with a box of lantern slides and two loops of 35mm film. These lanterns were produced primarily for the British market around the beginning of the last century, just as motion pictures started to become popular. 32cm x 34cm x 13cm.

Condition: Sold as seen, the tinplate has light surface rust. The mechanism functions (click here to see video). There no light source or upper bracket for supporting the film loop and the cinematographic effect has not been tested. The lantern has, however, been tested using an independent light source and been found to deliver a strong crisp image.
