Antique brass microscope, extremely large, bar limb, Victorian circa 1860, cased

£0.00

A fine quality and extremely large mid-Victorian bar-limb compound monocular microscope dating to around 1860, contained within its original fitted case and presented together with a full complement of accessories. Though without maker's mark it is to a similar pattern that was developed by the renowned microscope designer Andrew Ross in the 1840s. 56cm working height.

Condition: A beautiful instrument in very good original condition with just the right degree of patination giving it a nice sense of age and history and yet still in full working order and with a good range of accessories. Coarse and fine focusing are both functioning correctly, as is the X and Y movement to the mechanical stage. The case retains its original French Polish, retaining beautiful colour and shine. The case is missing its key, the knob is missing to the lower drawer and the handle is a replacement.
