A Marlow Brothers of London No1 British quarter plate camera, dating to the late 1890s. Mahogany and brass construction, makers plates to left and right, and a retailers plate for Martin Waller of Guildford to the front.

Marlow Ltd was established by Edward Marlow in 1866 and operated from premises in Birmingham, initially as a supplier of photographic plates. Marlow began making cameras in 1883 but went bust in 1893, the bankrupted company then being taken over by his sons Edward Jr and Thomas, and operating under the name of Marlow Brothers. This particular model, the MB No1, was offered in quarter, half and whole plate sizes. This example, in quarter plate, measures 29cm long (extended) and 17cm high.
