japanese ship’s engine order telegraph

 

A large and most impressive antique polished aluminium and brass ship's order telegraph by the well-regarded maker Nunotani Keiki Seisakusho Ltd of Amagasaki in Japan.  It stands 100cm (39") tall, excluding handle, and measures 36cm (14") in diameter.  There are two dials, each with settings from 'Dead Slow' to 'Full', both bearing the maker's name.  To the top, a polished brass plate with traces of original red and black infill, is similarly marked with the ship's speed settings.  To the front, another polished brass plaque has the maker's name, date of manufacture (1973), the serial number E-9271-1. It ), weight (31.4kg) and power settings.  Nunotani is Japan's longest-established maker of nautical instruments, the company dating back to the 1890s.
